Heather Dawson is a warrior goddess whose warmth, kindness and optimism always light up even the darkest of situations. Good thing, too, because life’s thrown her some doozies…
When we were finishing university in the early 1990s, Heather lost her mum to breast cancer. In the following years she struggled through miscarriage after miscarriage (seven to be exact) before her first son was born, and another eight miscarriages before her youngest made his miraculous appearance. Yep, that’s 15 miscarriages. Enough to make anyone lose the sparkle in their eyes. But not Heather.
Not long ago, Heather found out that she carries a gene that made it very unlikely she’d live to see her boys become men unless she made some B-I-G choices. So she took action, undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstruction followed by a hysterectomy. She’s committed to watching her boys grown up and keeping on building her empire of smiles and sewing love for a long time to come. And I’m so grateful, as her friend, that she’s here.
This lady is one amazing soul. She’s navigated grief, loss and uncertainty like no one I’ve ever seen, and she’s one of the happiest, most positive people I know. Cozy up with a cup of tea and enjoy this interview.
To find out more about Heather, check out her Instagram account to see some of the exquisite creations she magics up with her sewing machine, and be inspired by her cheerful, positive outlook. She’s amazing.
As ever, I’d love to know what you think. Head over to the Virtual Village on Facebook to chat more about the episode and if you’ve liked it, subscribe and SHARE with all the mamas you know. We could all use a spark of Heather-generated sunshine.
